Children talking about Langston Hughes
Roger Williams middle school kids performing Langston Hughes

The Langston Hughes youth events have been a motivating program for our youth in Rhode Island. Through Langston Hughes’ words, the youth programming has allowed young readers to identify and share their artistic talents, particularly those in the urban core cities of Providence, Pawtucket, and Central Falls.

On the last day of National Poetry Month 2024, we had a great time at our our latest Langston Hughes Youth Showcase! Thank you to the many who attended, volunteered, performed (the students and adults) and supported. A very special thanks to Knight Memorial Library for hosting us, Providence Public Library for allowing us to have our youth workshop there, and Alisha Pina for capturing the moment with these pictures above.

These events are possible only with your support.

Donations are tax-deductible.

"Youth" by Langston Hughes

We have to-morrow
Bright before us
Like a flame

Yesterday, a night-gone thing
A sun-down name

And dawn to-day
Broad arch above the road we came,
We march.
