Our 30th annual reading is almost here!

The kickoff event to Rhode Island's Black History Month celebrations is back, and this year we turn 30! Join us on February 2, 2025 from 1-3PM in the RISD Auditorium, 17 Canal Walk, Providence, for this like no other milestone festivity! The poems of Langston Hughes, the poet of the times and our forever poet laureate who continues to teach us today, will be read aloud by members of the community accompanies by the Leland Baker Trio.

There will also be a performance from Astro Mama, participation from our youth, and a reading from Rhode Island School of Design President Crystal Williams, who is also an award-winning poet and essayist, as well as a surprise or two. In addition, we will have a silent auction with items to bid on such as a Harlem-era doll and art, a Providence Athenaeum house membership, a three-month

co-working membership in the CIC-Providence building, and an incredible mixed media piece from world-renowned artist Bob Dilworth, the recently-retired University of Rhode Island professor who was honored at the 25th Rhode Island Pell Awards for his excellence in the arts. What an honor it will be to have a Bob Dilworth piece hanging in your home. Come ready to bid!
